Hulusi AKAR was born in Kayseri in 1952. After completing his primary and secondary education in Kayseri, he graduated from the Military Academy in 1972, the Infantry School in 1973 and the Army Command and Staff College in 1982.

He actively served in the Turkish Armed Forces for a total of 49 years. During his military career as an officer, he served in various positions at the Turkish Armed Forces and NATO including the command of Turkish Task Force in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1997-1998). Minister of National Defense Hulusi Akar, indicated in his speech on March 21, 2019 that we are tasked with the responsibility to protect and maintain peace in our blue homeland of 462 thousand square kilometres.

It is sadly observed that some media outlets have failed to accurately report his speech in its totality.

While always expressing that the problems in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean should be resolved through peaceful means and dialogue, Turkey has the will and determination to protect its rights and interests arising from international law and agreements.
