MESSAGE OF MR NURETTİN CANİKLİ, THE MINISTER OF NATIONAL DEFENSE, ON THE OCCASION OF 18 MARCH MARTYRS’ DAY AND 103RD ANNIVERSARY OF ÇANAKKALE NAVAL VICTORY
Today we are celebrating the 103rd anniversary of our Çanakkale victory with a great honor,
enthusiasm, and excitement.
Today, it is also the day we, with gratitude and respect, commemorate our glorious martyrs who did not hesitate even a second to die for the sake of country, nation, azan, flag and independence despite all poverty, incapabilities and difficulties.
Today, it is the day when the Turkish nation has engraved on the deepest pages of history of nations to show to the whole world what they can dare and what kind of a history they can make, and how they can react to those who intend to attack their peace, welfare, independence, continuity, future, reputation, unity and integrity just as was on 15th of July, when it is the homeland, territory, flag, azan, independence and future in question.
This nation has shown to all nations that it shall not be dominated by any country and power by saying “Çanakkale is Impassable” even in the most helpless moment when the great powers of the world surrounded all around, 103 years ago.
The most significant characteristic of our Noble Nation is to write heroic sagas as in Çanakkale, War of Independence and 15th of July and to defeat with determination and courage those who intend to harm thousand-year-heritage of this land, by finding the courage from others that they don’t have a history and accumulation to allow formation of such courage, as in Cyprus Peace Operation, Euphrates Shield and Olive Branch Operation.
As a part of the heritage from our history, we shall continue to maintain our land, homeland, territory, flag, azan, independence and future with unity, belief, determination and solidarity and to sustain and treat with honor our national and moral values that make us and that differ us from other nations.
In this respect, I celebrate the 103rd anniversary of Çanakkale Naval Victory, and commemorate our all martyrs and ghazis, primarily Gazi Mustafa Kemal, who granted this territory as a home to us, with gratitude and God’s mercy.
