TURKISH NAVY TAKES RESPONSIBILITY OF COMMANDING NATO’s STANDING MINE COUNTERMEASURES GROUP 220.02.2021
The responsibility of commanding the Standing NATO Mine Countermeasures Group Two (SNMCMG2) which is in charge of the maritime operation and training activities regarding NATO’s mine warfare in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, will be taken over by the Turkish Naval Forces between the dates of 20th February and 16th April, 2021.
The Turkish training ship TCG SOKULLU MEHMET PAŞA will serve as the flagship of the SNMCMG-2 which will be commanded by Colonel Yusuf KARAGÜLLE.
Attended by the Turkish Naval Commander Admiral ERCÜMENT TATLIOĞLU, the handing over ceremony took place in Istanbul today with the participation of the Turkish TCG SOKULLU MEHMET PAŞA and TCG AYVALIK ships accompanied by the Spanish Navy ship ESPS TAJO.
The Mine Countermeasures Vessels from the Bulgarian, Spain, Italy, Romania and Greece Navy will also serve in SNMCMG2. As part of the mission, the Turkish Navy will participate in mine warfare exercises hosted by NATO member countries in the Mediterranean and Black Seas, and also conduct bilateral naval training with the riparian countries.
