
Yaşar GÜLER was born in Ardahan in 1954. He graduated from Army Academy with the rank of Second Lieutenant in 1974 and from Signal Corps School in 1975.
Having served as Signal Platoon and Company Commander at various units between the years of 1975 and 1984, Yaşar GÜLER graduated from Army War College in 1986 and from Armed Forces College in 1988.
As a staff officer, he served as Chief of Operations at Internal Regional Command between 1986 and 1988, as Planning Officer at Evaluation and Inspection Division of the Army between 1988 and 1991, as Chief of Operations and Training Branch at the 12th Infantry Division between 1991 and 1992, as Internal Security Battalion Commander between 1992 and 1994 in Silopi, as Turkish Deputy Brigade Commander in Bosnia-Herzegovina between 1994 and 1995, as Project Officer at the Office of Military Senior Counsellor of the Presidency between 1995 and 1997, as Deputy Chief of Signals at NATO Regional Command South in Napoli/Italy between 1997 and 1999, as Commander of Partnership for Peace Training Center between 1999 and 2000, as Chief of the Exercise Branch of Turkish General Staff between 2000 and 2001 and he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in 2001.
As Brigadier General, he served as the 10th Infantry Brigade Commander between the years of 2001 and 2003, as Chief of Communications, Electronics and Information Systems Plan and Coordination Department of Turkish General Staff between 2003 and 2005 and was promoted to the rank of Major General in 2005.
As Major General, he served as Commander of Communications, Electronics and Information Systems School and Training Center Command between 2005 and 2007 and as Head of Training Department of Turkish General Staff between 2007 and 2009 and he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General in 2009.
As a Lieutenant General, he served as Commander of General Command of Mapping between 2009 and 2010, as Commander of the 4th Corps between 2010 and 2011, as Chief of Intelligence of Turkish General Staff between 2011 and 2013 and he was promoted to the rank of General through the decisions of Supreme Military Council in 2013 and carried out his duty as Deputy Chief of Turkish General Staff between 2013 and 2016 and as General Commander of Gendarmerie between 2016 and 2017. He was the Commander of Land Forces between 2017 and 2018 before having been assigned as the Chief of General Staff of Turkish Armed Forces with the Presidential Decree issued on July 9, 2018.
Yaşar GÜLER was awarded with the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal and Medal of Honor along with several medals by other countries.
Yaşar GÜLER was appointed as the Minister of National Defence with the Presidential Decree issued on June 3, 2023.
Yaşar GÜLER is married to Mrs. Demet GÜLER with one child and two grandchildren. He is fluent in English.
