Irregular Migrants That Greece Tried To Forcefully Deport To Turkey Were Rescued

Date: 09.03.2021

Our neighbour Greece is attempting to deport irregular migrants to Turkey via illegal methods. Our border guards stationed in the area of Edirne’s Meriç identified a group of 26 irregular migrants that Greek authorities attempted to deport. The irregular migrants who were left stranded on an islet on the Meriç (Maritsa) River and faced with the risk of freezing, were handed over to the Meriç District Gendarmerie Command following coordinated efforts with AFAD for their successful retrieval from the islet.
