AIRFRAME RENOVATİON AND STRUCTURAL REPAIR ACTIVITIES FOR AIRCRAFTS

Tarih : 07.06.2020

Besides aircraft maintenance, repair and renovation activities, 1st Air Maintenance Factory Directorate, 2nd Air Maintenance Factory Directorate and 5th Main Maintenance Factory Directorate have specialised on structural repairs for damages and deformations of aircrafts airframe structures requiring different experience.

Within the scope of information given above, 1st Air Maintenance Factory Directorate; Within the scope of composite materials production for T-38 and NF-5 aircrafts, the factory has composite production capability for vertical stabilizer, leading edge panel, rudder, trailing edge panel, flap trailing edge panel, aileron trailing edge panel, wing fixed panel, wing end panel, wing upper fixed panels, wing leading edge, main landing gear cover, main landing gear strut cover, under-fuselage access cover, air inlet internal panels of T-38 and NF-5 aircrafts.

The factory has composite repair capabilities for vertical stabilizer, leading edge panel, trailing edge panel, rudder, flap trailing edge panel, aileron trailing edge panel, wing fixed panel, wing end panel, wing upper fixed panels, wing leading edge, main landing gear cover, main landing gear strut cover, under-fuselage access cover, air inlet internal panels, horizontal stabilizer, vertical stabilizer end antenna, nose landing gear cover of T-38 and NF-5 aircrafts.
The factory has composite production capabilities of detailed part design and analysis (3D design and analysis, UG, ANSYS etc) mould design and production, detailed part production (5-axis CNC, Sheet metal forming, heat treatment), detailed part chemical treatments (coating, abrasion) preassembly and curing (Chemical cleaning, adhesive primer, clean room, autoclave, drying oven, vacuum equipments, sanding), test (cutting and stripping test), leakage test, nondestructive inspection (x-ray real time, penatrant, eddy current, ultrasonic and magnetic)), painting (coating, conductive paint).

The factory has composite materials repair capability for horizontal stabilizer box, horizontal stabilizer leading edge, rudder, verticle stabilizer leading edge, wing leading edge flap, flap aileron, wing fixed panel, ventral fin of F-16 aircrafts.

Nondestructive Inspections and partial repairs of composite materials are performed for KT-1T aircrafts before painting.

Structural Replacement Projects were performed in order to decrease fatigue effects of “G” manoeuvres’ on aircrafts which will increase because T-38 aircrafts are used for Combat Readiness trainings and to keep the flight safety at the highest level. FS 487 formers, FS 332.5 bulkheads, lower central longerons and dorsal longerons which are structural parts were replaced by the new ones.

Structural repairs of wings, front, middle and rear airframes of T-38 and NF-5 aircrafts are conducted.

Fs 479 replacements, Fs 341 lower bulkhead replacements, canopy longeron replacements for F-16 Block 30 and 40 aircrafts are performed. In the structural replacement projects for life extension of F-16 Block 30, 40 and 50 aircrafts, replacement and reinforcement repairs for airframe structural support materials will be performed as of 2020.

We have structural repair capabilities for main landing gear covers, nose landing gear covers, on-airframe and under-airframe access doors, avionic unit covers and engine access doors of removable structural parts of F-16 aircrafts.

2nd Air Maintenance Factory Directorate;

Belowmentioned NDI methods are used for structural damage detection activities for especially C-130 and KC-135 aircrafts in compliance with international standards (T.O.33B1-1):

  • Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection (MIL-HDBK-728/3) (Level III)
  •  Magnetic Particle Inspection (MIL-HDBK-728/4A) (Level III)
  •  Eddy Current Testing (MIL-HDBK-728/2)
  •  Ultrasonic Inspection (MIL-HDBK-728/6)
  •  Radiographic (X-Ray) Inspection (MIL-HDBK-728/5A).

?

For KC-135 aircrafts which are rarely maintained in maintenance centers across the world:

  • Boom Shock Absorber replacement
  • Replacement of aircraft surface sheet metal in compliance with BS 395-620 (STR 19-25-29)
  • Production Break (PB) replacement in compliance with TCTO IAW CSTO TK1C-135-6WS-16
  • Replacement activities for phase 4,5,6 of electrical systems in compliance with TCTO 1KC-135-0647

?

For C-130 aircrafts;

such detection activities for structural cracks and damages and their replacement and repair activities (if required) as

  • Replacement activities for rainbow fitting which binds central wing with outer wing
  • Replacement of wing support attach angle
  • Detailed control of 82-790 central wing
  • Control of C-130-2251 propeller crack

are performed.

In 5th Main Maintenance Factory Directorate;

Aircraft airframe renovation activities which started with training and reconnaissance aircrafts continued with the addition of maintenance activities for small type piston and turboprop airliners.Maintenance and repair activities for airframe, engine, propeller and accessories of the belowmentioned aircrafts are successfully performed.

Aircrafts which airframe renovation are performed on:

  • Cessna185 (U-17 A / B)
  • Cessna172 (T-41D)
  • Beechcraft T-42A
  • Cessna C-421
  • Beechcraft B-200
  • Dornier DO-28D1 / D2

?

Maintenance, repair, renovation and tests of the belowlisted units of various model helicopters whose airframe/engine renovation capability were acquired are performed in compliance with the procedures determined by the manufacturers.

  • Main gearbox,
  • Main and tail gearbox,
  • ?Drive shafts,
  • Cooling fans,
  • Rotor and subsystems,
